Everyone You Know Going NUTS? Here's' WHY?

Before Civilization Collapses, It Will Go Stark-Raving MAD!

“Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.” – by Prometheus, in the Masque of Pandora (1875) by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Mad World

April 2015 – CIVILIZATION – The enormous cognitive dissonance between our growing awareness of our civilization’s accelerating collapse, and the ‘news’ in the media and the subjects of most public discourse, continues to baffle me. Though I suspect it shouldn’t. We are all slow learners, preoccupied with the needs of the moment, with a preference for reassurance over truth. I often find myself, these days, at social and other events, at a loss for words, not saying anything, as a result. It’s as if I speak an utterly different language from the people I meet in my day-to-day life, so what’s the point of saying anything? Perhaps this is Gaia’s way of teaching me patience. I continue to vacillate back and forth all the way from the humanist worldview (F. on the ‘map’ above’) to the near-term extinctionist worldview (L.), depending on what I’m doing and who I’m doing it with, or what I’m reading (Charles Eisenstein seems to best represent worldview F. and Guy McPherson best articulates worldview L., and I greatly admire them both).

I’m happy with company anywhere along that continuum — they both speak my newly-acquired language, though with very different dialects. It’s sad to me that most people find collapse too terrifying to contemplate. I find it liberating. Read More.

SAO PAULO - #Brazil - STILL DRY DESPITE RECORD RAINS

SAO PAULO STILL DRY DESPITE RECORD RAINS

In this 29 January 2015 file photo, a bridge's columns are marked by the previous water line over the Atibainha reservoir, part of the Cantareira System that provides water to the Sao Paulo metropolitan area, in Nazare Paulista, Brazil. In 2015, Brazil's biggest city recorded its rainiest March since 2008, but the worst drought in more than 80 years has left reservoir levels critically low, and water experts fear that strict water rationing may still loom for Sao Paulo as it enters the April-September dry season. SÃO PAULO (Associated Press) – Brazil's biggest city has recorded its rainiest March since 2008, but the worst drought in more than 80 years has left reservoir levels critically low and water experts fear that strict water rationing may still loom for São Paulo as it enters the April-September dry season.
The crucial Cantareira water system, which provides water to about 6 million of the 20 million in the metropolitan area, was still only about one-fifth full as the dry season began.
Authorities already have imposed water-saving measures, including cut rates for people who limit usage, reduced pressure in water lines during off-peak hours and de facto rationing: some areas receive water only half the day.
Environment Minister Izabella Teixeira said this week that those programs must be expanded, and the government is preparing "a rational water-use program, given the end of the rainy season." She offered no details.
But some think that may not be enough.
Mario Thadeu Leme de Barros, head of the University of São Paulo's hydraulic engineering and environmental department, said existing measures, combined with the transfer of water among reservoirs, "will hopefully allow us to reach the end of the year with the mini-rationing that exists."
He also called for the use of more efficient appliances, the use of wastewater and better detection of leaks in a system that loses more than 30 percent of its water to leaks.
"But we cannot discard the possibility of more harsh water rationing measures should we be hit with an even worse drought during the coming dry season," he said.
Moody's Investors Service warned last month that water rationing looks increasingly likely, adding, "Overall, mandatory federal or state water rationing would worsen Brazil's already sluggish economic growth."
In March, São Paulo, received 8.13 inches (206.5 millimeters) of rain, 16 percent above the average, boosting the level of the Cantareira system from 5 percent to nearly 19 percent of its capacity, the water utility Sabesp said Thursday on its website.
The other five systems were at 23 percent to 97 percent of capacity as the dry season started.

Stock Markets, Economies and Humanity Heads To Collapse? - #Forbes

Disaster Is Inevitable When The Two Decade-Old Stock Bubble Bursts

By Jesse Colombo, Forbes

Six years after the Global Financial Crisis, the U.S. stock market continues to soar to new heights with nary a pullback or correction. In this piece, I will explain why the stock market is experiencing a new bubble that is actually another wave of the bubble that has existed since the mid-1990s.
A two-decade old bubble? Yes, you’ve read that correctly. Most people will consider this assertion preposterous, but the facts don’t lie. Though the U.S. stock market has been experiencing a bubble for two decades, it will not last forever. I believe that the ultimate popping of this bubble will have terrifying consequences for both investors and the global economy that is tied so closely to the stock market.
The SP500 stock index has more than tripled since its low in 2009, but that doesn’t mean that we are out of the woods. On the contrary, this is the calm before the storm. Read More.

Our Comments

The childish fabricated theories of neoclassical economics, that have been driving humanity, economies and stock markets towards a collapse of Jericho's metaphoric proportions and finality, can perhaps be best understood when we bring the real governing ecological, geological and other related sciences to bear, These existential rules cannot be overcome by the silly rhetoric of current economic dogma, nor any of its possible abstract fabrications and outright lies, no matter how many Nobel Prizes, Phds and other laureates you bestow upon these  crazy mad men, who still head this truly - "MEDIEVAL CULT."

This video presentation by Charles A S Hall, Ecologist - provides excellent insight into what our real circumstances are and the governing universal laws that we face  - who ultimately have the final say in all physical and related natural matters, regardless of our human hopes, beliefs or aspirations. These cognitions are all muted by this absolute context. At the same time, another absolute villain also joins with science, paying little attention to any of  our rumblings, rantings - and particularly, those discourses of utter nonsense that were preached, "to so many, by so few," with impunity over the past 200 years.

Exponential mathematics is, of course, the other known outlaw joining these evil scientific laws, who together in concert will permanently and finally push the pathetic rock of neoclassical hogwash over the proverbial cliff, forever. Sadly, but only after orchestrating and inflicting through its teachings,  practices and intellectual perversions, unimaginable crimes against the planet and its mostly innocent inhabitants.

Future intergalactic visitors shall certainly be amused by how we built so many statues with so few, if any, apparent natural resources. They shall  puzzle and wonder, just as the Portuguese explorers once did  - " who would cut down the last tree? "

Does this mean that Santa Claus is soon going to have move his  headquarters and manufacturing facilities from the North Pole? The problem: Where does he move them to? Will it affect Christmas deiveries?

For sure, there is a tone of sacacism in these questions, but it is actually one of the implications that stems from the melting of the polar ice caps. Poor Rudolf. We are not going to revisit the climate debate in these commnents as we think that the Live Science article provides all the material you need to further evauate the issue. Instead, what we really want to bring to your attention are the pictures of the melting ice caps and the land that is now being exposed.

Pictures again speak volumes of the gravity of the warming global climate making it easier to understand how positive feedback loops are formed to further agrivate this problem.

How the deniers want to explain away such evidence, tests the boundaries of all reason. But no doubt they will try.

Meanwhile, we have the pictures.

Venezuela Reinforces Shortage Controls: Attorney General Threatens Punishment for "Hoarding"

Is It Exponential Math Yet?

Now what does Venezuela have in common with Syria, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Cyprus, Portugal  and a host of many others? Start with rapid population growth, and then add in a sharp decline in natural resources critical to generating export revenues needed to buy food stock for its growing number of mouths. The Flat J Curves that we observe globally are infesting individual countries who had for decades followed the false prophets (sic) of classical economic theory. Wealth was not created, rather it disappeared.

Now look at what happens when those naive make-believe positive-sum games collide with real physical economic constraints that refuse to negotiate and do not allow more blood, or as in this case; OIL - to be drawn from the stone. Food Shortages result, turning to social unrest which then sets the stage for political upheaval. Anyone starting to see a pattern emerging here yet? Clearly, not the gurus working at the IMF, World Bank, UN and other bastions of astute and thoughtful analysis.

We are not going to forecast the future here, but all minds should begin to turn to the insightful destiny of Nauru, Easter Island and others to see the path that most likely lies ahead for these failing economies. Economists may continue to mutter eloquently with gibberish that suggests these nations need to conform and adhere more rigorously to their naive growth theories and monetary doctrines. They all tried that nonsense. So why can't they create the wealth and grow out of it?

Because there is so much less to grow with, and too many more to grow for. It is a pie that is shrinking while facing demands of a rapidly growing population. And as we know, that sort of silly mathematics only works at the Highly Esteemed  Schools of Classical Economists. Voodoo math that is totally ignored by the physical laws governing - Entropy!

To close, we fondly observe - SNAFU

The Economist - Climate Change "It's Still our Fault"

The Economist
Climate Change
"It’s Still Our Fault"

Climate change denial? It is not even the question of whether it is occurring or not - in this recently released IPCC report - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change; in fact, the key issue is identifying what or who is the cause behind this rising trend. So it is no surprise, when this UN body states that it is more than 95% certain that human activity is behind increasing temperatures, as reported in The Economist article linked above.

But it is more depressing when the co-chair of the report, Thomas Stocker, says that we are committed to climatic change for centuries to come, even if we completely halted CO2 emissions today. Telling us that the heating feedback loops in the biosphere are on automatic pilot and cannot be reversed in short order. There is just no question then that road ahead is turbulent - and all bets are off should the warming begin an accelerated climb. Some scientists believe that is a possibility that could occur any time without warning.

Again this proves that measuring the wealth of nations or the planet based simply on monetary values creates a false sense of well-being. In more ways than one wealth is diminishing rapidly, despite happy GDP or employment growth numbers. Economics may ignore physics, but physics won't ignore economics.

"Why would you ever trade government guaranteed bonds for highly-levered, riskier, de facto bank equity that poses as a debt instrument? Is there a smell of personal interest here?"
International Bank Regulator - 2013

Did you ever wonder who was selling all those long treasury bonds to the Fed? Where was all that money going? Bonds? Investments? Bonuses?  Well, gleaning from the content, in both the FFI and The Telegraph articles, the money trail looks pretty clear. Here is what we make of it, in a nutshell.

Big Banks sell their bonds to the Fed, then take the proceeds and buy other Banks' debt, that may be converted to equity should the other Bank's ratio fall, say, below 10%. An event that is almost certain to occur once rates spike upwards and all the Banks have to mark to market monetary assets. Marked to market accounting of these assets is sure to result in write-offs that correspondingly affects each Bank's capital structures. These debt instruments are simply a clever way to inject capital into the banks, so that they remain solid even as the rest of us suffer when interest rates rise.

This is also what you call a "Country Club Bail-Out' that quietly escapes the attention and scrutiny of  the media, pundits, public and, of course, our brilliant politicians. So under the radar, Uncle Ben is shelling-out up to $85 Billion monthly, to shore up Banks prior to the much anticipated interest-rate driven write-offs - "without congressional authorization." Nice trick. What's worse? Even if you explained this simple shell game to those political wizards, sadly there is no guarantee they would show even a slight flicker of understanding.

For the stability of the financial system this is, however, a good move and should avoid the recording of losses by Banks provided that the conversion price provides for an equal dollar for dollar exchange of securities. Afterwards though, the capital positions of these Banks could be exposed to market fluctuations - so it is still fraught with risk issues down the road.

Banksters should also be personally happy with this short-term bail-out insurance, provided to protect their loans, businesses and  huge bonus entitlements  Who loses? Well, in the end it's the taxpayers who are quietly bailing out the Banks, without anyone being the wiser simply because they are doing it ahead of time with an invisible financial wand. Real estate will also get clobbered, unless owners have hedged their positions; say, by shorting long bonds. And long-term the economy and future generations will get to pay the biggest price!

Just clever, sneaky or magical finance? Or fraudulent tricks? Hmm.

Who's Planning World's End - Stephen Hawking?

"What! Now they even started a committee?"

Do you ever have that sneaky suspicion with all the news about climate change, biosphere collapse, financial instability, political strife and war, overpopulation and social upheaval that the world is soon coming to an end? Who ever really thought it could go on forever anyhow? So if you do have those sinking feelings, your thoughts are in line with Stephen Hawking and other "Big Brains" who are getting together to formulate plans for the end of the world.

This article (linked above) from The Independent lists the members of this elite committee along with its agenda of  possible end-game scenarios. Two things are obvious to our "Little Brains" firstly, is the people who are missing on this committee, and secondly, the short list of scenarios. We could add at least ten more possible end-games stories. And more likely ones too. .

That in itself speaks volumes - but we hope these guys are smart enough to realize that once they design their end of the world plan - don't forget to pass it around to the rest of us.

Gotta hand to our great leaders - but never forget they are the same one's that got us here!

P.S. By the way, had the opportunity to discuss this topic with a poet friend. And we both agreed that the problem with this exercise is that they are concerned about singular events and not processes i.e. sequential serial events. In other words, why should time be relevant to the expected outcome being studied? Anyway he observed,  "because that was the road less travelled, and that would make all the difference!"

Ahhh Poets... What do they know?

What if there are aliens? And they're here already?
