Governor says deadly flooding is worst ever seen in Texas area
Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Monday likened the ferocity of flash flooding that killed at least three people to a tsunami, and authorities said a dam had given way in a state park.
Abbott declared states of disaster in 24 counties and flew over the area south of Austin to assess the damage caused by tornadoes, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and flooding that forced evacuations and rooftop rescues and left thousands of residents without electricity.
"This is the biggest flood this area of Texas has ever seen," Abbott said.
"It is absolutely massive - the relentless tsunami-type power of this wave of water," he said.
He described homes that were "completely wiped off the map" by the dangerous weather system that struck Texas and Oklahoma. Read More.

Serbia and Bosnia Flooding Disturbs Land Mines From Region's 1990s War
18 May 2014 (Associated Press) – Floodwaters triggered more than
3,000 landslides across the Balkans on Sunday, laying waste to entire
towns and villages and disturbing land mines leftover from the region's
1990s war, along with warning signs that marked the unexploded weapons.
The Balkans' worst flooding since record keeping began forced
tens of thousands of people from their homes and threatened to inundate
Serbia's main power plant, which supplies electricity to a third of the
country and most of the capital, Belgrade.
Authorities organized
a frenzied helicopter airlift to get terrified families to safety
before the water swallowed up their homes. Many were plucked from
rooftops. Floodwaters receded Sunday in some locations, laying
bare the full scale of the damage. Elsewhere, emergency management
officials warned that the water would keep rising into Sunday night.
"The situation is catastrophic," said Bosnia's refugee minister, Adil Osmanovic.
Three
months' worth of rain fell on the region in three days, producing the
worst floods since rainfall measurements began 120 years ago. At least
two dozen people have died, with more casualties expected.
The
rain caused an estimated 2,100 landslides that covered roads, homes and
whole villages throughout hilly Bosnia. Another 1,000 landslides were
reported in neighboring Serbia.
This is a disaster of unmeasured proportions - again, we are seeing the
climate chaos being caused by global warming leaving no region on the
planet untouched. Where are our leaders? Hmm...

MAGLAJ,
Bosnia (AP) – Packed into buses, boats and helicopters, carrying
nothing but a handful of belongings, tens of thousands fled their homes
Saturday in Bosnia and Serbia, seeking to escape the worst flooding in a
century.
Authorities said 20 people have died but warned the death toll could rise further. Three
months' worth of rain has fallen on the region in just three days,
creating floods that meteorologists say are the worst since records
began 120 years ago. Observed from the air, almost a third of
Bosnia, mostly its northeast corner, resembled a huge muddy lake, with
houses, roads and rail lines submerged under water. Admir Malagic, a
spokesman for Bosnia's Security Ministry, said about a million people,
or over a quarter of the country's population, live in the affected
area.
Surging water reached up to the second floors of homes at
times, sweeping away traffic lights and signs as it coursed through
villages and towns in the two neighboring countries. Roads were blocked
and metal bridges crumbled at the onslaught. In the eastern
Bosnian town of Bijeljina, some 10,000 people were being evacuated
Saturday after the rain-swollen Sava River pushed through flood
defenses.
"We need everything, we are underwater," mayor Mico Micic said as he appealed for help.
Solomon Islands' next challenge to repatriate flood victims: NZ
The main hospital has sent staff to deal with diarrhoea ,dengue flu and malaria outbreaks with damp conditions at the care centres hindering relief efforts.
The evacuation centres are still home to about 9 to 10 thousand people where supplies for the families in the centres limited and bridge access to Honiara is slow.
Presenter: Geraldine Coutts
Speaker: Acting New Zealand High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Sarah Wong
WONG: I mean in terms of I guess the state of Solomon Islands and where things are I think it's useful to note that this has been an enormous event for Solomon Islands, and in particular, Honiara and Guadalcanal Province. It is a natural disaster that I can't thing of anyone, any Solomon Islander that I've spoken to who have described some natural disaster that's been worse than this and so it has taken people by surprise and people the recovery period is going to be quite awhile, this is many months of recovery for Solomon Islands. And I think that the international community need to be on standby to help, but Solomon Islands obviously need that space to work through some of these very complex issues around repatriating families, working out where people can rebuild, and also just the enormous task of rebuilding the infrastructure and basic services so that Honiara City and Guadalcanal Province can return to normal.
COUTTS: New Zealand is working with UNICEF as are other nations to try and overcome the concern about what's happening in the Care Centres at the moment. They're crowded still,
people aren't able to go home, the schools are in use as kids haven't been able to go back to school and now, on top of that, they're trying to avert another crisis of illness in these Care centres. Can you just give us a status report?
Floods leave half of Solomon Islands' capital without access to water
Authorities say it could be weeks before water supplies to the capital of Solomon Islands are restored.
9 April 2014 (Radio Australia) – Authorities say it could be weeks before water supplies to the capital of Solomon Islands are restored.
Last week, unprecedented flooding in the Pacific island nation claimed the lives of 23 people and left 9,000 homeless.
It also wreaked havoc on Honiara's water mains, with around 50 per cent of the city now unable to access water, and pipes to one of the main water supply depots broken.
Solomon Water General Manager Richard Austin said parts of the water system have been completely destroyed.
"We have two levels of problem," he told the ABC.
"We're dealing with the amount of water available in Honiara, generally, but also … provid[ing] safe basic quantities of drinking water to the evacuation centres."
Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has announced a $3 million aid package to help the flood recovery.
Australia will also boost the number of personnel in the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI).
There are now 16 Australian Defence Force personnel deployed in the country.
That was a great movie title with some fabulous stars, but it was never intended to be applied to how we set our global thermostat. Or maybe it has another meaning?
From the outset one should realize that there are two distinct categories of scientist: Media-Scientists and Real-Scientists. The former are the ones you often see in the media, on talk shows and print, promoting a favoured point of view that is consistent with those of their benefactors. Very little credibility can be given to these media hucksters for obvious reasons. Real-Scientists, however, labour quietly behind the scenes seeking little public attention for their work; being most happy with their quiet professional achievements and peer approvals. They do not significantly benefit in any other ways from their work, and hence are afforded a much higher degree of trust.
So that is why when these real climate scientist tell us that global warming is double what many believed for the past fifteen years - we believe them. But we do not do so blindly and look to other corroborating evidence to confirm their assertion. Other supporting evidence includes rising sea levels, more wildfires and floods, extreme weather turbulence, animal migrations, declining insect populations and rapidly melting glaciers and icecaps. Almost overwhelming support!
On the other hand, we also recognize that measuring the global temperature is not so simple. It is a complex process and metric because of the numerous ranges and areas that need to be measured and observed. There is no one absolute measurement or device. Therefore, some form of mathematical averaging and modelling requiring assumptions are needed, but these are also subjective and open to influence and change. Despite this shortcoming, the integrity of the Real-Scientists who perform these complex calculations is a substantial and positive over-riding persuasion in their favour.
Read the above-attached (linked ) RealScientist report for yourself; read other source links, go over their site and think about what else supports the report's climate temperature assertion. Then draw your own conclusions. We did. Things are much hotter than we thought.
According to sources close to the matter, International Governments recently required all senior executives and editors at Rupert Murdoch's News Corp to undergo MRI brain scans in an effort to determine why they continue to deny all scientific evidence regarding Climate Change and counter the science with fabrications, falsehoods and propaganda. There apparently was a real fear, in the medical community, that a rare strain of pandemic virus had attacked their truthy prefrontal cortices which is a section located close to the inner brain's hippitatus colon, situated way below the mid-frontal lobes, near the APT orifice. The papers and networks included in the investigation were such notables as "The Wall Street Journal," "The Daily," "Financial Post" and FOX News.
Reports were filed today by the Chief Neurosurgeons at an undisclosed New York clinic; everyone was pleased and ecstatic over the results. As you may have guessed by now, "there was nothing to report" So it is back to business as usual in the happy halls of News Corp, who can again continue to report and make-up scumbag stories based on nothing.
Seriously, countering this fictional reporting is the battle in the Canadian construction industry where tighter legislation is forcing developers to use more wood over concrete in their projects. In their public arguments, expressed in National Advertising, the Concrete Industry rightfully argued that given the increase in extreme weather conditions their product was much more capable of withstanding future severe weather conditions. Pointing to recent flood costs, associated with severe weather attributed to climate change in both Calgary and Toronto, the Insurance Bureau of Canada was also supportive of this industry's position, as follows:
Read their full reports above or watch the video below. But what should be perfectly clear, that outside the hoaky world of unprofessional tabloid journalism, real industries and honest people are taking measures to deal with these climate change events. And they make no bones about the fact that it is real and that more can be expected. Remember, they all have real skin in the situation, not just words.
For now, we have nothing further to report, but ask that you carefully weigh the facts and fiction to draw your own conclusions. Or just call and ask Aunt Katrina or Uncle Sandy, for their views on matters.
